The vanity table has a long history. It has been used for over a century so it is quite common to come across some of the more antique vanity table. Maybe it has even come from an era where it is called the toilet table as the tables were also often used for the bathrooms. At that time, the vanity table was not only the table for makeup and hairstyling, but also for hygienic and ritualistic purposes.

Not all the antique vanity table comes from the old age. Some of them also come from the modern time but imitating the styles of the antique table. This variation can add the charm and also elegance to the room not to mention the function. Add to the other decoration and make you feel like you have travelled in time whenever you step into the room.

The antique vanity table is usually larger in size. Moreover, it is also quite extravagant with all the decorations. Therefore, it should be placed in the larger rooms and not suitable for small bedrooms. Most of these tables are equipped with candle holders to provide optimum lighting and the holders are placed strategically. Even some of the modern imitating antique keeps this candle holder in place just for the sake of decoration. There would be at least one large mirror placed there. Sometimes, there would be some additions at the sides. There mirrors are smaller than the one in the middle.

Parts of the antique vanity table is usually the table top for placement of different items, sometimes there are also designs where this part can be lifted up and revealing the wash basin; the drawers that can be seen from the front part which can often decorated with ornate knobs; the basin which is an optional part; the main mirror in the middle that can be either round or rectangular;  the side mirrors which serve as the extension of the center mirrors; the hidden drawers; lighting and seating.

The types of an antique vanity table can be a console dressing table which is thin and is bracketed against the wall, a dressing chest of drawers with mirrors on top, a writing dressing table is narrow is style, a cupboard dressing table which has one or more doors at the base, and lowboy which is a small table with a row or a few rows of drawers.
